Owen's 1st Christmas

Santa Claus has come and gone and Owen did pretty good for his first Christmas...of course I guess its hard to be bad when you've only been around for three months! There were lots of toys from grandparents and hugs and kisses as we made the rounds for Christmas, and he gave Santa a run for his money on the "bowl full of jelly" belly when he laughed.Yes, a full blown laugh to go with that awesome smile! That is the best Christmas present a parent could ever ask for.....

Now as we wind down on 2008 and all the wonderful events it has held we're looking forward to the adventures that 2009 will bring us as we take this everchanging journey down parenthood. We hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and wish you an awesome 2009!

Christmas cheer is in the air.....

Well its time for another update and a lot has happened in the last few weeks. His first Thanksgiving went very well,we spent a quite day at home and I cooked a nice little dinner for us three . The next weekend J.W. had planned a awesome little getaway in Fredricksburg for us as a birthday present to me, so Owen had his first "weekend" stay at nana and pop's. J.W. and I had a great time shopping, visited a winery or two, and stayed in the cutest little cabin from the 1800's.In all it was a great birthday weekend and it was kinda nice to have some one on one again, but I did miss my little man like crazy.

Other than that, we had our first set of shots this last week and took it relativly well-the doctor says before long we can start giving him a few veggies once a day. Owen weighed in at 15.4 and was 24 1/2 inches long. He's still working so hard on his laughing, but he's got that melt your heart smile down to a T. Yesterday he seem to have realized that he has a voice and can talk....because from about 5 o'clock on last night that is all he did, and obviously whatever he was jabbering about was of the utmost importance and demanded our full attention!!I can't belive Christmas is a week and a half away-the shopping is nearly done and we managed not to go crazy buying up the stores for Owen. I'm excited to get up on Christmas morning and enjoy the two biggest blessings of my life......this year will be the best Christmas we've ever had and I hope everyones is as bright and joyful as ours will be......Merry Christmas to you all!!!!

Crash course in motherhood 101

Well Owen finally made it at 6:24pm on Sept. 30 weighing in at 8 pd 15 oz. and 21 3/4 long.....yeah, suprise to mommy! Everything went well though and now we have survived the first week at home. Motherhood is proving to be an awesome and exhausting journey.....but its amazing (no matter that its normally 2:30 in the morning and your running off of two hours sleep, with a pounding headache) the love you feel for your child is unbelievable, it can't be beat. We've learned that boys love to pee when changing a diaper-regardless of whether you keep them covered or not, that just because it sounds like he;s finished dirtying his diaper doesn't mean he hasn't saved a little for the fresh one you just put on, and that socks are destined to get stuck in poo if they are left on while changing. He's already so alert and trying to hold his head up and wiggle around as much as possible, I'm begining to realize that as soon as I blink he's going to be 18. Its taking a lot of adjusting on both mine and JW's parts but we wouldn't trade it for anything. I'll do my best to update and keep pictures posted for everyone.....time permitting

Train Tracks and Castor Oil

O.K. so we made it to month 9 and it looks like everything's in position and ready to go...so what exactly is Owen waiting for??? The nursery is done, clothes are washed and bags are packed for the hospital. Lucky for me my weight gain slowed down the last half of my pregnancy so I didn't gain the 80 pounds I was expecting to and the swelling has stayed at a minimum. The one thing I am sure about is that Owen is a very active baby who refuses to sleep-even when he has NO room left to move. I think he's convinced himself that if he pushes hard enough I'll just pop....and here lately I'm not convinced that his theory is entirely wrong.
We had a great shower and everybody has been so supportive-we're truly blessed with great family and friends. I'm begining to fear though that we may actually make it to my due date (since I've been swearing he would come early) in which case you can scratch what I said in my last blog about it being the longest 4 months- this 9th month will be the single longest one of my life!!! I know J.W. is just as impatient as I am and we can't wait to see our little guy-hopefully my next update will come with pictures of our beautiful baby boy!!!But for now I'll just contemplate the old wives tales of train tracks and castor oil......
